Setting up your computer for Wireless
Basic settings are as follows:
SSID: Automatic
Mode: Infrastructure
Channel: Auto Select
WEP: Disabled
Important! Do not set or use "Ad hoc" or "Bridging" modes on the CU wireless network or serious problems can result.
Some laptops with internal wireless network cards, require pushing a button on the laptop to enable wireless networking.
To configure your computer for wireless network connectivity, select the set of instructions below for your operating system.
Register Your Wireless Network Card
To start using wireless, you need to register your wireless network card. Open a web browser and you will be re-directed to the registration webpage. Read and accept the User Agreement, enter your CU Login Name and IdentiKey password, then restart your computer (power off and on). As part of this registration process, Windows computers are scanned for security vulnerabilities; if updates are needed, users will be automatically directed to needed updates before access to the network is granted. For more information on network registration, see www.colorado.edu/its/networking/dhcpreg.html
Update Your Wireless Drivers
Since the CU network was upgraded to 802.11g technology, some users experienced slower rather than faster network connections. If you're having wireless connectivity problems, update your drivers. It is highly recommended that everyone periodically check their wireless card vendor's website for driver updates. Download and install new drivers as instructed.
